Aidan Becker, a 22-year-old security guard, has been identified as the man who died Friday evening at Mernda Railway Station in Melbourne's northeast after intervening to protect a 14-year-old schoolboy from an alleged robbery attempt by four teenagers.

The incident occurred just before 6 PM when Becker stepped in as the group of teenagers allegedly tried to rob the boy. Police report that Becker was allegedly stabbed with a machete during the confrontation. Three individuals have been charged in connection with his death.

The Alfred Hospital, where Becker worked as a security officer, released a statement mourning his loss. "Aidan's colleagues at The Alfred describe him as a dedicated, respected, and much-loved member of our security team," the hospital said. "He will be remembered for being full of life, and for his positive energy, kindness and dedication. He was a quiet hero who gave his all for those around him."

Community members gathered at Mernda station over the weekend to lay flowers and pay tribute to Becker. Local residents described him as someone who would not hesitate to help others. One community member told reporters that Becker "couldn't hurt a soul, all he wanted to do was help people" and "would do anything to help anyone, he'd give the shirt off his back to a random person." Another resident said, "Their son is a hero and he will be remembered for what he did."

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas described the situation as tragic, noting that Becker was "just a good Samaritan who was trying to do the right thing." The investigation into the incident continues as the community processes the loss of someone they remember for his selfless character and willingness to protect others.
